The Stewardship Audit

A clear, actionable path to stronger donor retention
— before fall giving season.

Stewardship isn't just the thank-you note after a gift, it's the foundation of your entire donor experience. The average nonprofit loses more than half its donors every year. But once a donor makes a second gift, retention nearly doubles. The difference between a one-time donor and a loyal, long-term supporter is almost entirely what happens in between. That's stewardship.

When your stewardship foundation is intentional, consistent and aligned, retention improves, donor connection deepens, and your team gains the clarity and capacity to move out of reactive mode.

Audits are being booked between June and September, so organizations have time to act on the findings
before fall giving season.

You’ll get a comprehensive review of your donor experience, including

  • Communications & Messaging
Acknowledgements, impact language, email touchpoints, donor-facing copy, and the overall tone and consistency of your communications.

  • Donor Journey & Touchpoints
How donors move from first engagement to gift to ongoing connection — and where moments of delight (or drop-off) appear.

  • Monthly Giving Experience
Your recurring donor onboarding, messaging, workflows and renewal practices.

  • Workflows & Operations
Internal processes, segmentation, CRM practices, data handoffs and anything that adds friction behind the scenes.

You’ll receive

  • A clear narrative report outlining strengths, gaps, and opportunities

  • A prioritized 90-Day Action Plan with the highest-impact next steps

  • A Donor Journey Map showing your current stewardship touchpoints and a proposed next stage tied to your 90-day priorities

  • Practical language, templates, and recommendations you can use right away

  • A live walkthrough session to help you absorb, align, and activate

Optional add-ons

After the audit is complete, you can opt into a 90-day implementation engagement. I step in to execute the plan in partnership with you and your team — building or rebuilding the workflows, templates and sequences that need attention — so your stewardship infrastructure is solid before fall giving season. No obligation to decide in advance.

How It Works

Phase 1

Gather & Ground

We collect materials (communications, acknowledgements, workflows, data samples) and I meet with key staff to understand goals, constraints and context.

Week 3

Recommendations

You receive clear, donor-centered recommendations across communications, processes and touchpoints.

Phase 2

Review & Assessment

I analyze messaging, tone, timing, workflows and donor journey patterns to surface strengths, friction points and opportunities.

Week 4

Action Plan + Walkthrough

We meet for a 60–90 minute session to review your personalized 90-Day action plan so your team knows exactly what to do next.

Why Now

With donors being slower to give right now, the organizations that come out of fall giving season strongest will be the ones that spent the summer shoring up their donor relationships, not scrambling to repair them in Q4.

Retention is a financial strategy. Retaining a donor costs a fraction of what it takes to acquire a new one. And any new donors you bring in become truly additive growth. Not just backfill for the ones you lost.

Audits are being booked between June 1 and September 1. Availability is limited.

Your Investment

The Stewardship Audit is $5,000. Implementation support is available as an optional add-on after the audit is complete, priced based on organizational size and scope.
